Introduction

I'm Martin Rinehart, a writer and programmer.

HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is the language of web pages. I got my younger daughter a website so she could have a place for her pictures from a junior semester abroad. She didn't know HTML, so I wrote this tutorial for her. Took her about an hour to get to the point where she was working on her site. My goal for this tutorial: get you started in about 60 minutes.

Why learn HTML? Maybe you want to create some web content. Maybe you want your blog to stand out. Maybe you want to be literate in 21st century technology.

Maybe you were thinking of using Microsoft's no-HTML-required website builder FrontPage when you noticed that FrontPage for Dummies is 384 pages long. HTML is easier.
